This talk addresses the state of the field, as it pertains to the efficacy and utility of the category of Blackness in Medieval and Early Modern Studies and Contemporary Critical Thought. In doing so, this discussion calls our attention to the possible ways in which students and scholars in Iberian Studies can incorporate rigorous, yet nuanced, studies of Blackness that reclaim, revisit, or revise our approach to and assumptions about the concept’s cultural, literary, historical, and theoretical meanings.”
